How does Embossing work?

You send us a design and/or logo and we create a male and a female plate out of a hard and durable material called Delrin.  These plates are then perfect aligned and mounted onto the die holder, which is placed into the embosser.  The paper that is to be embossed is then placed in between the male and female plates.

The male Delrin plate is mounted at the bottom of the die holder.  When pressure is applied to the handle of the embosser, the plates are forced closed and the male plate pushes up and through the paper, creating a raised impression of the artwork on the paper.

Although the embosser will still make an impression on thicker paper, we can only guarantee a perfect impression if the paper is 80gsm or less.

Uses for the new Trodat Ideal Seal (Embosser)?

Embossers are used for a variety of different purposes and by different industries/professions.  These include:
  • Branding – add a creative and professional touch to your letterhead, compliment slips and training certificates
  • Legal – we have a standard layout which is used by conveyancers.  Attorneys also use embossers for certain legal documents
  • Crafting – there are numerous applications for crafters
  • Fraud Prevention – many training providers now use embossers on their training certificates to prevent them being fraudulently reproduced (see below)
When designing your embosser template, which could be an exact replica of your logo, you can add in a little signet that no one else will pick up. Be it an extra line somewhere, or even a dot in the middle of the logo. It is almost impossible to replicate an embosser seal, as only you would know where to find your trademark security measure. You can also change your embosser template, if you feel the need. It can be easily removed and replaced with a new design.

Therefore, if someone were to present a certificate or docket, claiming that it is from your institute/company, you can immediately tell if it is a fake or not. It is equally important to make all companies that you are affiliated with aware of your new security measures, so they do not fall pray to fraudsters either.

Taking this all into account, makes your learners/employees feel more at ease (their hard work cannot be simply replicated), your affiliates will have a new sense of security as they will not have a problem of having ‘fraudsters’ working for them, and you lose the extra worry of having copy cats reproducing your academic/organisational documentation.

Many companies purchase Gold/Silver labels (as per the image above).  They then emboss these and stick them onto their documents/certificates.  This is particularly useful if the area you have available is well in from the page margin and the embosser won’t reach.  It also gives the certificate or document a more professional look and feel.  It is still possible to stick the label onto the paper first and then emboss the label.

We stock 50mm and 60mm labels in Gold and Silver.  They are suitable for the 41mm and 51mm embosser respectively.
